Universal Health Services River Vista Behavioral Health Hospital

Madera, CA

The very first OSHPD 5 facility constructed, this new 128-bed behavioral health hospital was designed with therapeutic environments and features lots of natural light. Features and amenities include six outdoor wellness courtyards for recreation, an indoor gymnasium, counseling and programming facilities for all ages, outpatient care, and intensive day programs. Of the 128 beds, 24 are reserved for serving children ages 5-17, which makes the facility the first dedicated inpatient unit for children in Central California.

To provide abundant daylight and clear sightlines between patients and staff, the primary structural system uses structural steel framing with metal decking and concrete floors/roof. The skin of the building comprises light-gauge metal stud framing with metal panel or other exterior cladding materials. The lateral-force-resisting system comprises steel brace frames with buckling-restrained brace diagonals. The foundation system consists of isolated spread footings supporting wide-flange columns.
