AURA Condominiums
Sacramento, CA
Designed by world-renowned architect Daniel Libeskind, AURA Condominiums was envisioned as a landmark building for Sacramento. With an overall height of 440 feet, the 39-story mixed-use tower would include retail, parking, and 31 floors of residential units. To support the architect’s vision of floor-to-ceiling windows at the exterior, Buehler proposed an alternate means of compliance for the lateral system to avoid code-required perimeter moment frames; this proposal was the first of its type approved by the City of Sacramento Building Department. Each floor plate had a unique shape and balcony layout, creating ‘slices’ in the exterior that generate a sense of movement in the façade.
