Solano County Government Center

Fairfield, CA

The Solano County Government Center houses more than 600 county employees and consolidates 16 public agencies into one facility. The project includes a six-story County Administration Center (CAC), a two story Probation Building, and a five-level parking structure. Awarded through a design-build competition, the owner expressed a desire for a long-life, sustainable, landmark structure. The most challenging goal considered by the team was to offer an enhanced level of seismic performance for the CAC while competing for cost against other designs based on code-minimum seismic standards. This goal was achieved through the use of a Performance-Based seismic design that employs a combination of steel special moment resisting frames and non-linear viscous fluid dampers.
