UC Davis Student Services Building

Davis, CA

The Student Community Center is prominently located at the heart of the UC Davis campus. The center serves as a resource center and a community center for student groups and individuals attending the university with office spaces, meeting and training spaces, and study areas distributed in and around a large central lobby. In the fall of 2016, UC Davis dedicated the lobby of the Student Community Center on campus to Dr. Mel Ramey for his contributions to the university. Mel's connection with Buehler dated back to the late 1970s when he had two young students in his classes - Dave Hutchinson and Ron Migliori. Both Dave and Ron credit Mel with their start, and success, as structural engineers. After a 37 year career at UC Davis as a professor, department chair and faculty liaison to the athletic department among other roles, Mel retired and joined Buehler in 2005. He brought a focus and formal structure to our in-house education that the firm had not previously known. It was particularly fitting that the Student Community Center building was designed by Buehler engineers who were also his students.
