Sugar Bowl Judah Creek Condominiums

Norden, CA

Reminiscent of a rustic heavy timber mining village, the Jerome Creek Lodge at Sugar Bowl Ski Resort is located at a 7,200 foot elevation and features 23 three-story ski-in/ski-out condominium lofts with covered parking below. Extremely high snow loads up to 700 psf, some of the highest in the United States, and the long spans required in the roof framing systems, demanded much greater capacity than could be easily achieved with wood framing. To achieve the Owner’s desired vision, the structure was designed using a wood clad steel frame with composite steel and concrete fill floor decking. To accommodate the short construction season in the mountains, the design team worked with the contractor to expedite final design and plan check while simultaneously starting shop drawing review.
