Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport Southwest Maintenance Hangar Expansion

Phoenix, AZ

As Southwest Airlines (SWA) began adding the larger Boeing 737-800s to its fleet of aircraft, they identified a need to renovate and expand their hangar facility at Sky Harbor International Airport. The existing hangar building includes two bays that span 220 feet each, and accommodates up to four aircraft, administrative support space, warehouse space, and maintenance space. An initial concept that expanded the hangar 50 feet to the south was taken through Design Development, and ultimately discarded in favor of building a separate hangar for the new aircraft. A new 4,500 square foot expansion to the provisioning warehouse and three additional loading dock bays were added to increase the capacity of the facility.
