Intel SC12

Santa Clara, CA

This six-story 540,000 square foot steel frame building is part of the Santa Clara Intel Campus that supports more than 7,000 people.  Located in a region of high seismicity, the performance of the building lateral systems were of extreme importance.  When designed, the use of special concentric braced frame detailing was an emerging approach to improve the seismic behavior of these systems.  To address poor site soils, an innovative configuration of interconnected shallow footings created a stiffened grid to minimize settlement.  The individual and overall structural solutions were specifically derived to achieve the best balance of performance and cost effectiveness.
