Butte College Instructional Arts

Butte College is committed to being a national community college leader in sustainability; in fact, the college won the grand prize in the Chill Out Contest for its sustainability efforts by the National Wildlife Federation. The steel braced framed Instructional Arts building hosts 42 different types of instructional environments, from ceramics studios to photography labs, and also includes a 200-seat black box theater. Certified as LEED Gold, the building exceeds California Title 24 Energy Code requirements by 35 percent. Sustainability features include evaporative cooling, 100% outside air HVAC units, ultra-low-flow faucets and water closets resulting in a 48.5% reduction in water usage over traditional facilities, electric vehicle refueling stations, and bicycle storage with permeable surfacing.
